Introducing our first researcher - Sarah Espinel
The Purpose Science and innovation Exchange (PSiX) has hired its first researcher as it prepares to initiate work on its first research project, the National Youth Purpose Survey.
Sarah Espinel comes to PSiX from the University of Virginia, earning her Ph.D. in community psychology and women & gender studies. Her research focuses on how gendered racism affects the health and wellbeing of women of color, the impact of stereotypes on social interactions, and the positive development of marginalized youth. She also applies her research to advance equity in policies and programs at the state and national levels, including with the Virginia Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Health.
“Sarah possesses significant expertise in co-creating research with youth, which is essential for us to design and launch the National Youth Purpose Survey in 2026,” said Anthony Burrow, PSiX director. “We’re grateful to have Sarah as part of the growing team at PSiX.”
The Purpose Science Innovation Exchange is housed in the Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research at Cornell Human Ecology. PSiX unites the rigorous study and lived experience of purpose to forge pathways to discovery and knowledge sharing. Founded in strategic alliance with Purpose Commons, PSiX’s work brings together researchers, community organizations, and policymakers to develop evidence-backed solutions to real-world challenges while deepening understanding of purpose as a transformative force in people’s lives.
